Best Time to Visit Anguilla

Find out the optimal times to experience Anguilla's idyllic beaches, vibrant culture, and outdoor activities in our guide to the best seasons to visit this Caribbean gem.

The best time to visit Anguilla largely depends on what you're looking to get out of your trip, whether it be outdoor activities, a cultural experience, or simply some downtime on the beach. Here is a breakdown to help you plan:

Best Time to Visit:

High Season (December to April): This is the peak travel period when the weather is generally dry and the temperatures range from 75°F to 85°F (24°C to 29°C). Beaches are in pristine condition, and the water is calm and clear. However, it's the most expensive time to visit, and you'll need to book accommodations and activities well in advance.

Low Season (May to November): This is the off-season, characterized by fewer crowds and lower prices. There's a higher likelihood of rain and the potential for hurricanes, particularly from August to October. However, the island is less crowded, and you can get great deals on hotels and activities.

Climate:

Dry Season (December to April)

  • Temperature: Ranges from 75°F to 85°F (24°C to 29°C)

  • Weather: Mostly dry, sunny, and warm with low humidity

  • Wind: Steady northeastern trade winds provide a refreshing breeze, making the temperature feel more comfortable than the thermometer suggests.

Wet Season (May to November)

  • Temperature: Ranges from 77°F to 88°F (25°C to 31°C)

  • Weather: Higher humidity and frequent but often short-lived rain showers; risk of hurricanes and tropical storms, especially from August to October

  • Wind: Winds can be variable, especially during storms.

Additional Points:

  • Water Temperature: The surrounding sea remains relatively warm year-round, ranging from 76°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C), which is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.

  • Hurricane Season: The official hurricane season in the Atlantic is from June 1 to November 30, with the peak risk in Anguilla being August to October. While modern buildings are designed to be quite resilient, it's crucial to have flexible travel plans and good travel insurance if you visit during this time.

  • Microclimates: Although Anguilla is a small island, it does have some microclimates. Coastal areas tend to be breezier and slightly cooler than inland areas, which can be more humid and still.

Festivals:

  • Anguilla Day (May 30): This national holiday is marked by a boat race, one of the island's most loved sports, and various festivities.

  • Carnival (End of July - Early August): This is Anguilla's most significant cultural event featuring parades, music, dance, and colorful costumes. It's a great time to immerse yourself in the local culture but plan well in advance as accommodations can fill up quickly.

  • Moonsplash Music Festival: Usually held in April, this festival is a must-visit for reggae fans and takes place over four days and nights.

  • Festival Del Mar (Easter weekend): A celebration of Anguilla's seafaring heritage with seafood culinary offerings, boat racing, and deep-sea fishing competitions.
