Getting to Anguilla and Getting Around Anguilla

Navigate your way to and around Anguilla effortlessly with our definitive guide on transportation options, from international flights to local commuting.

Getting to Anguilla

  • By Air: The primary gateway to Anguilla is Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA). This is a small airport and usually doesn't handle large international flights. Most travelers fly into Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten (SXM) and then take a short ferry or a smaller flight to Anguilla.

  • By Sea: Regular ferries operate between St. Maarten and Anguilla, and the journey usually takes about 25–30 minutes. Private boat charters are also available.

  • Transfers: Some hotels and resorts offer transfers as part of their service, which may include a combination of car and ferry rides.

Getting Around Anguilla

  • Car Rentals: Renting a car is one of the most convenient ways to explore the island. Keep in mind that driving is on the left-hand side of the road in Anguilla.

  • Taxis: Taxis are widely available and are a popular way to get around, particularly for short distances or if you prefer not to drive. Rates are generally fixed but can be expensive for longer journeys.

  • Public Buses: Public transportation is limited, and while there are some minibuses that operate, they are not particularly convenient for tourists.

  • Bicycles: In some areas, particularly near the resorts, it's possible to rent bicycles, though the island's hilly terrain might make this a challenging option for some.

  • Walking: While walking is always an option, the island's spread-out layout and hot climate make it less practical for getting around in general.

  • Boat Services: For travel to offshore cays and activities like diving or fishing, boat services are available.
