Where to Stay in Cuba

When visiting Cuba, the area you choose to stay in can greatly affect your experience. Your choice may depend on what you're interested in—be it the cultural aspects, historical sights, beaches, or a mix of everything. Here are some popular areas to consider:

Havana (La Habana)

  • Old Havana (Habana Vieja): Ideal for history buffs, this area is full of historical landmarks, colonial buildings, and a vibrant street life.

  • Vedado: This is a more modern part of Havana known for its 20th-century architecture, nightlife, and cultural venues.

  • Miramar: An upscale residential area with foreign embassies, luxurious mansions, and some high-end restaurants and bars.

Varadero

  • Known for its resort-studded beach, Varadero is ideal if you're looking for an all-inclusive, beach-front vacation.

Trinidad

  • A well-preserved Spanish colonial town, Trinidad offers a historical experience unlike any other. Cobblestone streets, local artisans, and small guesthouses make it a unique place to stay.

Cienfuegos

  • Known as the "Pearl of the South," this city offers a more laid-back atmosphere with French colonial architecture. It's an excellent base for exploring nearby natural attractions.

Santiago de Cuba

  • This city has a rich history and a strong Afro-Caribbean influence. It's a bit grittier than Havana but is the birthplace of many music styles and offers a variety of historical sites.

Viñales

  • If you're an outdoor enthusiast, the Viñales Valley offers stunning landscapes, traditional tobacco farms, and opportunities for hiking and horseback riding.

Cayo Coco/Cayo Guillermo

  • These are small islands off the northern coast, famous for their white-sand beaches and luxury all-inclusive resorts.

Baracoa

  • Located at the eastern tip of the island, Baracoa is Cuba’s oldest Spanish settlement and is surrounded by mountains and rivers. Ideal for those interested in nature and secluded beaches.

Santa Clara

  • Known for its history, especially the Che Guevara Mausoleum, it's a good stop for history buffs or those on their way to other cities.

Holguin

  • This area is known for its beautiful beaches like Guardalavaca and offers a more authentic Cuban experience with fewer tourists.
